Ever notice a not-so-pleasant smell in your dishwasher, or are wondering why soap scum accumulates in a machine that actually cleans and sanitizes your dishes?
I did. So I set out to find how I can get rid of the smell and the scum. Turns out the remedy is quite easy.
Enter today’s Quick Tip Friday.
So yes, even the machine that cleans your dishes needs a cleaning out every other month or so.
First, lift the cover of the drain and clean out any food bits that could be caught in the drain.
Second, in an empty dishwasher, place a dishwasher-safe container on the top rack and pour 1 cup of white distilled vinegar in the container. Run dishwasher on a hot water quick cycle.
Lastly, sprinkle baking soda over the bottom of the dishwasher and run another hot water quick cycle.
Just like that, your dishwasher is clean and smelling fresh. This tip will prolong the life of your dishwasher. And wouldn’t you want to take care of something that helps you out with such a daunting task of dishwashing?!!
And as a side note, the Oxi Clean people don’t know me from Adam, but I swear by this stuff. I put a quick squirt in the dishwasher before I start each cleaning cycle.
Now that’s a dishwasher safe Quick Tip Friday!!

No dishwasher here on the homestead (just me!), but this works for cleaning out the washing machine too 🙂 Thanks for sharing on the Homestead Blog Hop!
