Onions and garlic are essential ingredients to have on hand in your pantry, yet storing them can be a little tricky.
As you know, esthetics are important to me, so naturally the pantry is organized with themed canvas bins and wire baskets. That works great if I use them right away, but normally I stock up on onions and garlic to always have on hand. But pretty doesn’t always cut the mustard for proper storage.

Onions and garlic like to be stored in a cool, dark place. Those terra cotta garlic containers are cool and all, and do work pretty well. But, what I have found that works the best, is a tip that my mother has used for storing these aromatic goodies; an old fashioned, tried and true storage solution. All you need is some paper bags and a hole punch.
The holes in the paper bag provide enough air circulation to keep garlic and onions for a couple months. This old fashioned tip really works. And, looks pretty organized in the pantry.
