Spending time outdoors during the summer is the mainstay for most. Although the summer heat can get brutal, it’s this warmth that we soak in and the cherished memories we embrace, all while putting our outdoor furniture to good use. All it takes is one bad rainstorm for that outdoor furniture to collect some dirt and grime with a little mold sprinkled on top. Par for the course, and I’m going to share with you today the best way to clean outdoor furniture.
We spend so much time making our outdoor spaces comfortable and inviting and more often than not, those decorative pillows cover up the unsightly settling on the seating’s surface. For fear of sending you and your guests scurrying to the laundry to clean off their dirty heinies, give your outdoor furniture a little cleaning.
My tried and true method is simple: Dawn dishwashing detergent, a scrub brush and some water. This sweet bench that I inherited had a little of outdoor everything attached to it. I filled a bucket with soapy water, fetched an old brush that I save for chores like this, and got to work. Wet it down, soap it up and scrub. Not needing too much elbow grease, the detergent and brush really do all the work.
It really is that simple. No designer cleaning products. No need to run out and get anything special. Just a few squirts of Dawn and some brushing and the bench was clean. For a little added protection, I applied a coat of grey stain; a maintaining practice that certainly helps to do every year, or every other, still only taking a few minutes to apply.
Goes to show that you don’ t need to designate a day to clean your outdoor furniture, but rather just a few minutes. And why not spend the few? With just a little bit of attention, this really is the best way to clean outdoor furniture.
