Always around this time of year I start to get reaallllllllyyyy homesick for the South. Yes, I do sing praises to the season of fall, but deep down, my psyche isn’t too psyched about the cold winter ahead. To me, winter is fall’s bad hangover. Who’s with me on this? The snowbirds have it right – those that follow the birds and head south for the winter. I want to be like that when I grow up. But alas, my beloved 1820 found me and gave me life, and there truly is so much to love about the Hudson Valley. Chin up sweet self, because although I can’t live in the south (for now), I certainly can cook up my favorite dish that brings me comfort with every bite, and the flavor wraps around me like a warm blanket.
I’m talking about grits, ya’ll! The mainstay, the staple ingredient of the south. Child please, I could eat grits 24/7, 365, and the way I gussy them up, you could too.
And, you can!
Cheesy and hearty and oh soooo comforting, this Gussied Up Grits recipe will have you whistling Dixie in no time. And hey, even if you are a tried and true Yankee, this southern dish will totally justify you turning to old man winter and saying…..
…….Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten……

You ain’t just whistling Dixie, It’s real. Grits are simply the best and your plate brings tears to my eyes.
