As much as I have tried to redefine the saying “creature of habit,” I feel there is a fine line between that and the phrase “steeped in tradition.” I’d like to think I’m a little of both, although both sayings sound a little set-in-their-ways. Again, me to a tee. Slang and expressions can get us everywhere and nowhere, but no matter how you slice it, individual Thanksgiving traditions live on.
Let’s take pie for example. Thanksgiving and pie go together hand-in-hand, but what if I guided you down the pie-hack route. Instead of serving pumpkin pie this year, how about serving Pumpkin Ice Cream! Let all of your main Thanksgiving dishes remain the same, but let the dessert take a spin. This time, it’s all about ice-ice-baby.
I’m talking about Pumpkin Ice Cream Profiteroles. A cool spin on pie, with the autumnal pumpkin flavor in ice cream. The light profiteroles act as an airy crust and the two together, drizzled with caramel sauce; yeahhhhhh, my cup runneth over.
A make-ahead dessert that can be prepared 2-3 days in advance, is certainly a refreshing twist to the beloved pie. Change it up a little. I encourage you. Keep your turkey and sides the same, and change up your desserts. After the heavy (and very delicious) Thanksgiving meal, reach for the Pumpkin Ice Cream Profiteroles. You and your guests certainly will not be sorry.
