I’ve been on this kick of counting how many steps that I take every day. According to Jenna Wolfe, I’m supposed to be at 10,000 per day.
I’m not near that. Not even close.
So in an attempt to give that goal the ole college try, I’ve been going up and down our stairs several times a day, as well as walking up and down the driveway as I’m waiting for the kids to get off the bus. I’m thinking every little bit helps.
But as I climbed up and down the stairs, I kept staring at the hand rail. It was so dark, and had a funky stain on it; like a few different browns with a weird texture thing going on. I had to do something about it. I needed a diversion to the 10,000 steps, and these stairs needed to get Be Fed Again.
I wasted no time. I broke out the sand paper and started sanding. Probably my least favorite thing to do on any project. But necessary.
As I sanded, my respect for the carpet on the stairs went to nil. Zip-o. I’ve never been a fan of the carpet. I couldn’t rip up the carpet too. Not without a plan or an idea of what I would like to replace it with. That will be next. So I just kept sanding. Like 3 hours worth of sanding.
After all the sanding was complete, I cleaned the rails well, getting all of the dust off. Then it was time to paint on the primer. And even with just primer on the railing, it already started looking so much better.
Couple coats of primer and it was time to paint. And as I carefully painted, I felt like I was trying to be a Cirque de Soleil person. I was upside down, turned all weird trying to get every angle of the railing. Standing on my tiptoes. You get the idea.
But I got it painted. And it looks really great. Revived. Brightened up the foyer, for sure.
It’s on its was to Be Fed Again. Now, I’ve got to do something about that ugly carpet. And as I say, all in due time.
Right now though, this stair rail deserves its turn in the spot light.

Can I just say, these don’t even look like the same stairs Brooke! What a transformation! I can’t even imagine how long this must have taken but it was well worth the time because they are beautiful as it your wall paper, dreamy 🙂

This project was time consuming, but not as bad as you would think. Once I totally got my focus and groove, it went pretty smoothly.
