I don’t even know where to begin. This project took so long, that I can’t even remember when it started. Clearly, it was warm out when I started, because I’m wearing shorts in the beginning pictures. But seriously, this project dragged.
We have these two isosceles triangle windows in our attic that were in bad need of repair. Every spring we change out the windows and put in the screens. Then, when the cold weather hits, the windows go back in. But this year, before we needed to put the windows back in, they needed to be reglazed and refinished. New paint job.
At first, I was totally into it. I was scraping off the old glaze. And scraping. And scraping.
And it was all good. I had strong momentum. I sanded the frames, getting as much old paint off as I could. No problem.
Then it came time to apply the new glaze. But I lost interest and I have absolutely no idea why. I reclaimed this window in the den and loved the whole process. Yet with these two windows, I don’t know what happened…
I waited a few days and I painted on the primer. And then I went right in on one window, and painted the next two top coats. But then I paused again.
For like, weeks.
Every time I walked by the windows, I thought to myself “I’ve got to get these things done.”
The weather started getting chilly, and we moved the windows inside. We set up tables in our living room so I could work on them inside where it was warmer. But the windows sat in there too. For some reason, I was just done with this project. Zero interest. Nothing.
Every now and then I would go in and scrape some paint off the glass. But that was it.
Well, fast forward a few more weeks and we’ve hit freezing temperatures and a light snowfall. These windows HAD to get finished and put back in. Otherwise, everything in our attic would freeze.
So I forced myself to go in the living room, and finish that last window. And at this point, I was working quickly. Must. Get. Done.
And they are done, but I don’t even have good pictures to show for it. Can you stand it?! Sean and Caroline put the windows in, and they have been in place only for 24 hours. Just in the nick of time. Our low tonight is 21 degrees.
Thank goodness this project is over. Longest. Project. Ever.
Meg says
