Since my Christmas Tree post on Tuesday, I’ve received several emails asking me where we get our trees. So, I thought I would share with you where we get our Christmas trees every year, along with a few Christmas tree tidbits.
Meadowbrook Farm Market is where we get our Christmas trees, without fail. The farm gets their trees from a farm in upstate New York, near the Canadian border. We’ve always had great luck with that farm. Plus, we really like the owner. Check out his Christmas tree video here.
We always buy Fraser Firs. The needles stay on the longest, and the trees are the best shaped. Also, they have the best aroma, and in our house, that is key as well.
When you go to buy your tree, always ask when it was cut. That will determine how long you can keep your tree up and decorated. Typically, trees are cut at least a week prior to being put on the lot. One thing you must consider when buying a tree from a farm lot like we do, is that trees have gone significant periods of time without water. Have the tree guy cut a small amount off the trunk, and put your tree immediately in water when you get home. And, follow my Quick Tip!
Of course, the best way to go is to visit a tree farm and cut down your own tree. You can then pick out your tree while it’s still growing in the field, and you’ll know exactly how fresh your tree is. This method might not be an option for everyone, but certainly a fun family tradition.
I hope these tidbits of information are helpful to you when buying your tree. And thank you for all the emails and comments on our Christmas trees! I would love to hear your Christmas tree traditions, whether you cut it down yourselves or buy it from a farm lot like we do. Please share!
