The Country has been pounded by bad weather this winter, and I’m gathering most everyone has had it up to here with snow. I know I’m capped out.
Last Thursday and Friday, we received over 24 inches of snow in our humble neck of the woods. The kids were in their glory, but Ol’ Brooke had had enough. And not only was I capped out on snow, but our farmhouse has started to cry “Uncle!!”
Case in point, our roof and gutters. We have known that the roof needed to be replaced, and the yankee gutters needed to be re-lined / replaced / re-something, but all this snow accumulation and melting has kicked the process into high gear. We’re talking Daytona 500 type speed.
We have water coming in everywhere. A few of our 34 windows are lined with towels, and a huge leak has sprung in our living room. (insert a bastion of expletives here)
Sean got up on the roof and shoveled most of the snow off, and tried to remove as many icicles as he could. Seems to have helped some.
We had planned to conquer roof / gutter / exterior paint late spring, early summer of this year. That’s when we are / were hopeful that our time would allow for these projects and more importantly, our budget. The living room hadn’t really made the list of projects for 2014.
We were on a 10(isn) year plan to remodel the west side of the farmhouse; expand the living room, design a true master bedroom / walk-in closet / master bath. All the master stuff will certainly need to wait., but the living room is now on the front burner.
By the looks of this ceiling, we’re going to need to rip it down pretty pronto so no mold sets in, and try to fill in any holes, etc. I’m thinking while I’m at it, I’ll need to gut the exterior walls too, as to try and cover all of our bases with this leaking situation. Along with repairing the gutters, roof……
I have hung a white flag on our front porch, hoping Mother Nature sees that we surrender. Fingers crossed that the huge snow storms are finished for the season.
A colossal can of worms, I tell you. But we are troopers. And all this makes for good blog posts along the way.
We now are in living room high gear. Stay tuned for many future posts of trials, tribulations, and progress.
