Ever crave guacamole and you go to the store to buy avocados and they feel like hockey pucks?
Happens all the time around here.
Fact of the matter is, avocados do not ripen on the tree, they only ripen once they are picked, and kept at room temperature. But sometimes, their ripening process can take days. I have a solution to share with you to help speed up the avocado ripening process.
Enter today’s Quick Tip Friday!
Place the unripe avocado into a brown paper bag, along with a banana. The bag is used to trap the ethylene gas. These fruits (the avocado and banana) emit ethylene gas, and the more they produce, the quicker everything will ripen.
Store the bag, closed, at room temperature. Keep out of sunlight.
As the avocado ripens, it will get hints of purple and black. This process takes about a day to a day and a half. (The unripe avocados I bought yesterday morning were ripe by this morning.)
And with my ripe avocados, I made Chunky Guacamole. You can find the recipe here.
