Songs always seem to pop into my head. It’s so random, and so welcomed at the same time.
Today, when I was about to clean some clams, a tune from South Pacific popped in my head, and before I knew it, I was snapping my fingers, and singing along, ad-libbing my own words.
I’m gonna wash that sand right out of my clams…….
Enter today’s Quick Tip Friday
Shellfish come with a mass amount of sand in their shells.
Naturally.
To get the clams, or any other shellfish, to release the sand (spit it out), simply follow these steps:
1) Put the shellfish in a bowl and cover with water.
2) Add 2 tablespoons of flour to the water and stir to distribute.
3) Let shellfish soak in flour water for at least 5 minutes
4) Drain and rinse shell fish, and cook however desired.
Steamed clams….
Boiled clams….
Grilled clams….

We grew up doing the same but with corn meal. Actually fattens up the clams when they get that into their belly instead of all that sand!!
By the way–love your blog! I went to St Mary’s with Greg and Sean many many moons ago as well as OLL?
