I always had the rule that I wouldn’t let Caroline get her ears pierced until she is 10. After all, that’s how old I was when I got mine pierced.
I’m not opposed to girls getting their ears pierced at such young ages, even shortly after birth. I think pierced ears are beautiful. But my little girl; my sweet Little Miss, I felt the longer she waited to have her ears pierced, the better. Really though, the “better” was only for my benefit. Selfishly, I want to capture and bottle up time. Caroline is more mature, and certainly a heck of a lot smarter than I was at 8 years old. Kids grow up so fast, as we all know. Seems like just yesterday that an ice cream cone was the best treat ever.
She started asking me about a year ago to let her get her ears pierced. And I kept saying, “when you’re 10, you can get them pierced.”
About a month ago she asked me again, and this time she was relentless. It forced me to really think about it, and acknowledge that times have changed. I had to let up on some of my old fashioned views. And I thought, why not?
And I caved.
So last Friday, I took her to Zimmer Brothers Jewelers to get her ears pierced. And I took a video to share this monumental moment with all of you.
Caroline is happy. She is thrilled. And that warms my heart. Watching her look in the mirror constantly to admire her newly pierced ears is priceless.
Cheers Pierced Ears.

My stomach was in knots when he held that piercing instrument up to her ear! She took it like a champ though. I cried like a baby and I was 13. It makes me teary just thinking about it 🙂 Hugs, CoCo
