Ever wonder why shrimp turn pink once you cook them?
Same goes for lobsters, crabs and the rest of their crustacean family. Could it be that they are blushing from embarrassment?
Nahhhh.
Long story short, turns out that these tasty sea treats are covered in protein chains. When cooked, the heat destroys the chains and the pink pigment comes out.
The scientific explanation is much more technical, naturally, so I just gave you the abbreviated Cliff Notes version; err maybe you can call it the be fed version. Works for me.
Whatever their color, they are delicious and versatile in many dishes. But my favorite way to enjoy shrimp is by means of a Shrimp Cocktail.
