Oh by gosh, by golly, your guests are arriving with mistletoe and lots of jolly. But are you ready? I ask this because, really, hosting guests can go two ways: they’re lovely and they’re the kind that never seem to wear out their welcome, or there’s the kind that are a little like fish and start to smell after a couple days. Let’s face it – you’re thinking it, I’m saying it. No matter what the kind of guest you’re hosting, it’s always important to make them feel at home, and go the extra mile and bring the holiday decor and cheer right into the guest bedroom. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your holiday guests.
Puttin’ on the Ritz; Ritz Carlton, that is. Make your guest bedroom resemble a five star hotel with impeccable attention to detail. This will say a lot for you and your tastes, and your guests will feel like royalty, even with the smallest of details. Without saying, the sheets need to be nice and clean, and if you have the time and wherewithal, go ahead and iron the top sheet and coverlet. This makes the bed look so much nicer and much more inviting.
Provide some toiletries. Just the basics will suffice, and here, I’ve filled a holiday buffalo check bag with the necessities: toothbrushes, toothpaste, a bar of soap, washcloths, and bringing the holiday spirit to the game, I’ve filled gingerbread man glass bottles with shampoo and conditioner. Cheeky, yes, but festive just the same. To top it off, I’ve included a little green to the game with a bottle of green mouthwash. Don’t forget to have clean and folded guest-designated towels either hanging on a hook or folded on the bed. I have a towel hook hanging on the door for easy access.
Like everyone, your guests are going to need to wet their whistle, so providing water is a must. Here, I’ve upped the ante and put a charming bow on the lid of the water bottle with a candy cane attached for a little mint freshness. A firm believer that every room needs to have some sort of floral arrangement, the guest bedroom is no different and this simple bouquet is a colorful fa la la la la. And, in case your guests are in need of a sweet midnight snack, the red anjou pears are at the ready.
Providing a sheet with the house wifi password, along with popular television channels is helpful as well. Pertinent information that needs to be provided. And, if your guests are on the athletic side, provide a couple google maps of running / walking routes around your neighborhood that they can follow and ensure they make their way back to home base. Seems everyone these days has a phone and can come up with their own routes, but it’s nice to take the time and provide your favorite way, just the same.
These are a few things that you can do, to prepare for your holiday guests and make them feel welcome. Plus, these tips will give you a little piece of mind while you’re welcoming your family and dear friends. It’s the little details that go a long way.
Happy hosting!
