- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt.
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter plus 3 Tablespoons
- 2/3 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage
- julienned spinach for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. To that, cut in 1/2 cup unsalted butter until mixture resembles course meal. Add buttermilk all at once and stir until all mixture clings together.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead dough a couple times, then roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into rounds and transfer to baking sheet. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes or until golden.
- For the sausage gravy:
- Brown bulk sausage in a pan. Drain all but 2 tablespoons grease, and set aside. In a separate saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons butter.
