When we first took possession of our 1820, it was actually a week after we had closed on our house. Yes, we were very kind in letting the previous owners stay an extra week, free of charge, but when the day came where we stepped foot in our old farmhouse, it was joyous. We walked around from room to room, doing our best to not start tallying up the predicted reno costs, but rather we were taking it all in. The kids were running around exploring, and before we knew it, the Little Miss had came back with a smear of raspberries around her mouth. She resembled the cartoon character Gretel after she had devoured all of those desserts. She was licking her lips and was so excited about her discovery, she couldn’t even get the words out of her mouth.
We raced outside and followed her over to the bushes. Black raspberries. I was overjoyed! It was like we struck gold!
I cupped my shirt into a make-shift bowl and started picking. The more I picked, the more black raspberry bushes I found. There were hundreds, and for the past seven years that we have lived here, I look forward to the black raspberry harvest the most. I do compete with the deer, and true to fashion, I have been known to run outside, in my jimmies, with my wellies on, chasing those deer away. The neighbors have gotten used to such chaos.
With every harvest, I do try to create a new black raspberry recipe to add to my repertoire, and this year, let me present to you the most delicious, the most mouthwatering black raspberry recipe ever!
This Black Raspberry Ice Cream tastes nothing shy of a luxury. It is so good, that you can’t just have one scoop.
