Reveal posts are my very favorite projects to share. The transformations are always amazing. Here is our primary bedroom reveal!
Of all the projects and room makeovers that we have accomplished here at the 1820, there’s only one room where we’ve made over a couple times, and each time I have simply settled. In theory the design was a good idea, but when it all went into action and semi-completed, I felt…..well, the only word that comes to mind is meh.
Just meh.
Farmhouse 1820 Primary Bedroom Reveal
Here, we moved out of the first bedroom we dubbed our primary, which was only eight feet wide and 14 feet long, to a very spacious one that has southern facing windows and so much promise. I thought a deep navy would be sultry; maybe vibrant during the day and calming at night. I didn’t like it. Not even for a hot minute. But I lived with it. For too long.
Earlier, I talked all about what this bedroom looked like before, and I shared a before video, too.
Of course it didn’t help that an elliptical was shoved in the corner because we couldn’t quite figure out how to take it apart to move it. And then there was all kinds of other random things piled up and accumulated. It’s not that I had lost respect for the room, it’s because I never had respect in the first place. All this stuff just kept getting dumped in the room.
I’ve learned a thing or two about myself the past few years, especially where home decor is concerned; interior design, for me, cannot be rushed. It’s a low simmer. Create a concept, devour tear sheets for inspiration, add things here, then take some away and adjust. Mull it around in my mind for a little while and tweak as my thoughts go, and always work from a design board. Because really, rushed designs are not my bag.
Clearly.
Up The Ante For Sophistication!
So when Lick Home, Paint and Wallpaper reached out to me to join their U.S. launch team, I was a 100% on board. Not only do I love all of their paint colors, but Lick gave me time to think. To design. To make our primary bedroom design exactly what I wanted. A classic, almost earthy color that would bring me peace every single time I walked into the room, and then to lay my head on the pillow at night. I had no interest in sultry, but every interest in a calming color with a totally high end result.
This post is in collaboration with Lickhome.com. All opinions are my own, and it is my honor to work with such an amazing product and company.
As I rolled the first coat of Greige 01, I knew I loved the color so much. Great coverage and a flawless finish. It’s a beautiful trio of tan, grey and beige with a slightly green undertone, all mixed together, creating a soothing color for our primary bedroom walls. And while we’re at it, let’s paint the ceiling the same color, too. This way, the design continues from wall to ceiling and back again. Again, we’re going to seamless, and painting the window and floor moulding white 05, which is a beautiful warm white with a creamy yellow undertone. adds that subtle difference where needed.
The painting over our bed is called “Daydream.” A dear friend of mine painted it, and it spoke to me right to my core. The brilliant colors along with the whimsy; it’s like a breeze coming through and blowing good thoughts, good vibes, good dreams. For me, there was no other option than to hang this masterpiece over our bed.
Working with the vibrancy of the painting and adding black and white in the spiffiest way, these Ralph Lauren inspired tables are right at home at our bedsides, while the faux zebra print rug under the desk holds its own. I took the black and white photo of M & C a few years ago while we were walking in Central Park, and had the photo printed on canvas.

What an amazing transformation. I agree that interior design needs to take time. I think and think and think until I have it exactly right in my head before I ever even think about starting. Sometimes it happens more quickly but most of the time it needs to ruminate for a good while before I take action.

Great minds think alike!

What a calming and airy transformation. It takes effort to bite the bullet and do the hard work again. Very inspiring.
