The holidays are the perfect time to break out your beautiful dishes that are typically reserved for special times and occasions. I collect dishes – I’m sure this is not new news to you – and I like to change them out frequently. When the Christmas season rolls around, I’m breaking out the reds and greens and the brights, mixing old and new and creating nightly festive table settings. No better time than the present to make sure those collected dishes, both the everyday kind and the special occasion kind, are well protected from getting chips and cracks. Here’s a quick and easy DIY project to protect those dishes.
Though you can find dish protectors online, it’s so easy to make them yourself with the help of a piece of felt, a compass and some scissors. Simply take the compass and put the point of the compass on the bottom of the plate. Measure out to the width you would like for the circle protector to be cut. Trace the circle or circles out on the felt (tracing as many as you need, per the number of dishes you have), and then cut with scissors.
It’s so important to protect your dishes because of the amount of use, and the bringing out and putting away, the dishes are bound to get chipped. You can’t guarantee that everyone putting the dishes away are going to be as careful as you are. By putting a dish protector between each plate will certainly pad the impact and keep those dishes cushioned and protected of chips.
It’s important to take care of your things, and dishes are no exception. This DIY project is easy and relatively quick, and will certainly prolong the life of your dishes…..barring you’re not married to a bull in the china shop…..
