Today is the first day of March Madness and I can’t help but shrug my shoulders. I’ll come home this afternoon to every TV on in our house, all tuned into basketball. As I’ve mentioned before, Sean is a sports freak, and try as he might, the rest of us here at Farmhouse 1820 just aren’t that into the craze.
I have filled out the basketball brackets every year, and I’m out before I’m really even in. I know that Duke is pretty good at basketball, but what I also know is that Duke has a really reputable Marine Biology program. What’s that going to do for me in the form of brackets? Nothing. The only thing I really dig about these said brackets is that if I blur my eyes, I’m thinking the brackets would make for a chic wallpaper design.
Just the same, this March Madness thing is a big deal and that for two weeks, Ina Garden and Alton Brown are going to have to take a back seat. I will not have possession of the remote control.
So, I’ll embrace the basketball and incorporate it the best way I know how. In a flower arrangement. Hey, if you can’t bet them, join them.
I took a silver bowl and placed a clear bowl in the middle to hold the basketball. I filled the large bowl with water, dropped a couple pennies in, (remember that pennies prolong the life of a tulip) and arranged some tulips to encompass the basketball.
This, my friends, is how I celebrate March Madness. Rather than watch the dribble dribble, I would much prefer to tip toe through the tulips.
Are you hosting a March Madness party or two? Let this floral arrangement lend some inspiration to your table or backdrop. Because really, even a basketball can look pretty….
