Tis the season for unwanted critters and varmints invading our homes, wreaking havoc on anything and everything. They’re heading indoors without invitation, to try and stay warm and dry over the winter. Whether you have a new home or a 199-year-old home like us, those pests will find their way in and crawl up the inside of the walls, and even throw a rodent rave up in your attic. I have a solution that helps keep these pests at bay, that I tried over the winter last year and it worked very well. Enter today’s Quick Tip Friday.
It’s not only disconcerting to hear them scample around up in the attic, but I tend to find myself a little embarrassed even when I’m hanging out alone. I heard about this tip a couple years ago and decided to try it out last winter to see if it worked before I shared it here. What you’ll need is a bar of Irish Spring soap and a carrot / potato peeler. No other soap will work.
Shave the bar(s) of Irish Spring and place the shavings in areas were you think the varmints could be getting in. Also, spread shavings around your attic, and inside vents. The perfumes in this soap tell mice, rats, chipmunks and other unwanted critters to stay clear. And I’m here to tell you that I have tried this, and it works. You may need to add / replace more Irish Spring shavings around January / February; you can be the judge.
A rather inexpensive way to keep the pests away. If you do happen to have an infestation, I do recommend calling a pest control company.
Enjoy today’s Quick Tip Friday.
