Do you know there is an egg timer that will help you cook the perfect hard boiled egg? There is, and I’m sharing this egg timer with you.
Of the thousand plus posts I have published here on my beloved blog, How To Cook The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg is in the top 10 of popularity. This does totally humble me, yet with every view, I received some note-worthy comments. Things like cooking with gas versus electric is not something I really took into account. The elevation where you live never even crossed my mind. Not even for a second. But these are very good points that truly come into play when hard boiling eggs.
Now, I’m not going to get all scientific on you and go into depth on all these explanations simply because, I’m not a physicist. However, I’ve wanted dive into answers for all of the readers that brought up these concerns, and wanted to cook a hard boiled egg with no grey yolk and no rubber white. Sounds minimal, but really, I’m sure a scientist would love to dive into such a matter and show everyone living in all elevations, whether cooking with gas or electric, how to perfectly cook a hardboiled egg.
Well, as much as I love to research, I needed to find a solution that didn’t take me hours and hours to perfect. In kept thinking to myself, I know that there is a scientific reason for the grey film and rubbery whites, but I just wasn’t willing to devote the time to find the reasoning.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I wanted to test “skinny” egg salad recipe for the blog and needed a surefire way to hard boil an egg with zero grey film on the yolk. The whole idea makes me tired just thinking about it.
But then I stumbled upon a little kitchen gadget that is a GAME CHANGER!!! This is a product review I can stand behind 1000%. At first, I was sucked in thinking it was a gimmick. It was the middle of the night and I was scrolling my phone, (total eye roll here) and I stumbled upon this gadget. It got me thinking about my ever-so-popular blog post and the challenges I was asked to figure out and overcome. The price on what I found was minimal and I figured, harmless, so I clicked, added to my buggy and confirmed.
The day the egg timer came in the mail, I gave it a shot on our farm fresh eggs. Always a challenge to hard boil and peel, these would be the best students. I put the eggs in the pan, covered with cold water, plopped the egg gage in the water and let it come to a boil.
Once the gage signified that the eggs had reached the “hard” stage, I took the pan off the flame, rinsed the eggs in cold water and then they were ready to peel. That process couldn’t have been easier and the yolks were the perfect yellow. Absolutely no grey coating around the yolk and the whites were perfectly tender. Not rubbery. This egg timer is truly a game changer. Check it out!
