Routines are tricky, aren’t they? Just when you think you have a good one down, something changes and throws it off. I always look forward to summer so I can relax my routine, but then when back to school inches closer, I can’t wait to get back to structure. M & C started school yesterday and as much as I was looking forward to getting my focus back around here and starting my new planned routine, I’ve found myself feeling pretty darn lazy the past two days. The thought of a new routine almost makes me tired. Does this ever happen to you?
So what I did to get myself back in gear is to write down my goals of things I want to accomplish and a timeline, along with daily chores and family needs. The list did look overwhelming, but I broke it down even more to not only daily goals, but morning, noon and night goals, too.
Sound a little too structured? Maybe a little, but within my daily routine, I’ve added in one solid hour of quiet. Kind of like I’m putting myself in timeout. I added this hour with the intention of using it as I see fit, whether I sit down and read, take a quick nap or catch up on what I’m behind on. A flex hour. Makes a structured routine tolerable. I’ve done this in the past, and it’s one step that I highly recommend for everyone to add to their daily routines, even if you can only give yourself a half hour.
We’ll see how long I can stick to it, but once I put my mind, and my heart in to something, I make it work. At least until my thought out routine gets rattled. Then, I’m back to square one, but one thing is for sure, I guarantee that one flex hour each day will be in there.
