Looking for a way to update your dining room by painting? Lick is the best paint for the most amazing dining room transformation. Here’s how you too, can paint a chic and moody dining room with Lick Paint.
I got tired of beige, so I decided to go in the opposite direction on the color wheel and paint our dining room a sultry grey. Who knew that choosing a darker wall cover would brighten up the furniture in the room. Let this most amazing dining room transformation be your inspiration to makeover any room in your home with a darker paint color.
Have you ever been stuck in a color rut? Do you find yourself gravitating to the same variations of white because that hue is simply what you’re used to? Like, choosing a darker color may really throw you for a loop and put you in unchartered territory?
This was me.
With the exception of our previous bedroom color, I felt safe painting some version of white on all of our walls. And, in the case of our dining room, the lighter walls made our furniture appear darker. Because of this, our beige-wall dining room looked and felt dark, and dare I say a tad bit boring. My worst nightmare.
Can I tell you something straight from me to you?
I’m a creature of habit.
I tend to just stick with what’s easy for me, because, well, on the off chance that I get tired of the color (more often than not), it’s just best to stick with white or beige. And in theory, it’s pretty good advice. But in a designer’s standpoint, it’s blah. Meh. Like, yadda yadda yadda. There is absolutely a time a place for white, ivory or a combination of the two. However, to really make a statement and make a room pop, it’s time to leave the comfort zone and go bold. Safely bold. Like, a neutral color, on a darker scale.
Are you following me?
So instead of pouring over colors, I decided to visit a few restaurants and check out their dining spaces and what colors they chose to paint on their walls. Because, after all, can’t restaurants be the best inspiration for home dining rooms?!
Totally.
What I found may surprise you. I didn’t see one white or beige wall, but rather neutral colors on the darker side. Makes sense, right. Not only do darker wall colors create a sense of calm and relaxation, but also compliment the colors of food. Think about it – colors pop against a darker color; no whites to wash them out. So, it only made sense that I go with a dark grey for our dining room walls. And I’m so glad I did. Even with the first stroke of my brush, I knew I had chosen the right paint color for our dining room.
The Most Amazing Dining Room Transformation
Are you ready for the most amazing dining room transformation that brings out so many beautiful details because of the dark color it has been painted? Here is the before…
It’s pretty, but not overly exciting. Subdued but not a color that grabs you and says “Dude! Check me out!”
Before, dining room furniture looked so dark. And, with each piece being an antique or just downright wrong to paint, it looked heavy.
But not any more.
Our Amazing Dining Room Makeover
Our dining room has been transformed to a whole new level. With the walls and ceiling all painted in grey 10, it’s calm; moody; beautiful.
I found this wicked cool print that looks totally great hanging on the brick wall, and compliments the decor vibe of this now modern mix dining room. To me, this print says “Here’s to you” and invites guests to settle in and enjoy a fantastic meal. You can find a ton more prints like this one and so many more, here.
It’s the dining room that anyone would be happy sitting in and enjoying a delicious meal.
To bring a pop of brightness, I chose these awesome yellow slip covers. Totally budget friendly, they’re velvet and soft, and a perfect addition of color for everyday. Because of the brightness of these slipcovers, they mask the fact that all of the wood furniture pieces in the room are of different variations. Everything goes together now, and doesn’t look uniform. And it’s that the name of the game?!
For the shades on the chandelier, I followed this tip, turning ho-hum white fabric shades into va-va-voom black lamp shades.
Also highlighting the colors in the brick wall, this grey 10 compliments that wall beautifully.
Lighter dining rooms are trending now, and are safe. But why not step outside of your box and shake things up a bit by painting the walls with a darker color? Believe me, with all of the colors that Lick has to offer, you won’t go wrong with any of them. Each one is truly beautiful.
