  • Above the sink in our kitchen is a detail that I don’t care for in the least. It’s a wavy strip of wood that connects cabinets together or ties them together. Anyway, it runs  between two cabinets, and I’m not a big fan of wavy. It looks dated to me. And when I say dated, I mean not in a good way.

I’ve thought about just cutting it out. That theory seems simple and a quick fix. But, the more I looked into it, checked everything out, there’s a lot more than that entails. I just don’t want to tackle right now. Bless this old house. If we cut it out, then we have to deal with other things and then there’s a whole lotta yadda yadda yadda.

Is there a detail in your kitchen that you don’t like, but can’t change? Here’s an easy DIY, hiding a detail with a no-sew curtain valance.

  • Inspiration comes from all over, and the idea of how to make a table skirt with ribbons came from a department store during Christmastime.

I’m a sucker for ribbons. I have been for as long as I can remember. I have bins of them and it’s without question that I’ll use each one at some point.  Whether I make a shower curtain, or sew a bunch together for a pillow, or hey, even wrap presents with them, I’ll use them. And when I see something made from ribbons that I admire, then I’m all in.

Here’s how to make a table skirt with ribbons!

  • As you know, I love pattern on pattern. It seems sometimes I even preach it, but it works. And I love layers. Stack the patterned plates, yet keep it easy on the eyes. My rule of thumb is if your eyes can’t rest, then it’s no good. Keep looking. Loud with quiet. Small plaid with bold pattern, keeping in mind that sometimes the unexpected is, like, heck yeah!

    You know what I mean?

Sometimes, when I start thinking about a table setting, I pick out a set of plates that I haven’t used in a while, and see if they’ll pair with a seasonal print. And if I don’t have a seasonal printed plate? Well, I’ll make one.

    Transforming Dollar Store Pumpkins

    by Brooke Fedigan
    by Brooke Fedigan

I challenged myself to transform Dollar Store pumpkins into gorgeous fall decor. The challenge was to reinvent a Dollar Store pumpkin, and transform it into something fabulous. This time, I didn’t cover it with fabric. I didn’t cover it with tape, or decoupage an image.

Not even close. Instead, I went down the easy road, and lately, that is my favorite road to drive. I think you have figured this out about me. When it comes to crafts, I prefer the 3-F kind: fun, fast, and fabulous. No more, no less. Who’s with me on this?! Head on in and see how I transformed a bright orange Dollar Store pumpkin into a fabulous faux stone masterpiece!!
