I love to entertain, especially during the Christmas season. Here’s how I turned our dining room into a winter wonderland!
There’s a little bit of irony with shiny and bright mixed with the evening and candles. Who knew that a little bling could make one feel soothed. It sets a mood, don’t you think? Glittered Christmas decor scattered around that glows with the flickering flame of candles. A few shiny things tucked within the garland and trees to keep everything from being too bossy, but at the same time catching the eye and keeping the movement. Festive, yet calming. What a glorious combination.
When I started thinking about how I was going to decorate our dining room this year for Christmas, a beautiful winter wonderland came to mind. Flocked trees, garland and greenery, with lots and lots of warm lighting spread throughout. And bling. Just the right amount to be merry and bright, but not overbearing. Glass lamp votives standing all along.
I set out to decorate our dining room with more grandeur this year than years past. I wanted to walk in and have everyone truly feel as though they were walking through a winter wonderland. And that’s where all of the flocked comes in, and let me tell you, it’s magical.
How I Turned Our Dining Room Into A Winter Wonderland!
I’ve included links to many of the decorations I used in our dining room wonderland. All you have to do is to click, and you’ll find where you can find everything!
I started by decorating the table. Not going to far as setting each place, but rather putting together a flocked and evergreen runner that, perhaps, would be pre-lit with LED bulbs. Take some glittered snowflake ornaments and tuck one in here, and another one on the other side, zigzagging down the flocked garland. From there, adding the candlelight. Lots of it. I wanted that warm, amber glow. And to keep things safe and to keep the “flame” burning, I turned to LED candles. Tall ones and short ones, bringing in a good mix of heights and votives.
I found the BEST ones! Tapered candles and votives, too. All run on batteries and keep the flammable risk as a distant memory. ( ** total aside, the votives come with batteries! ) There are lots of these kinds of candles on the market, and I managed to find beautiful ones with flickering light that makes one do a double-take, thinking they’re real. I recommend them all day long. And the best part, they’re timeless! Let me give you the links: for the taper candles, click HERE. For the votive candles, click HERE.
I couldn’t just go with a pretty wonderland of a table, the room required more. Way more. Like, maybe, three trees.
Going with a couple small tree and a larger one displayed over top of an unexpected sideboard that serendipitously has the perfect size top to house such a tree. Because, why not put a Christmas tree on top of a side board?! It totally worked and created that statement I was going for. Shimmering ribbon cascading down the tree with an added shiny ornament here, and there. Not too much, not too little. Walking into the dining room from the foyer, that tree is the first thing you see. You can find this flocked Christmas tree, HERE.
Then, the eye goes slightly left to the table.
But what about the other wall.
I’ve got it covered..
I removed the two lamps that lived on the buffet, and replaced them with two small pre-lit flocked trees. The same shimmering ribbon cascading down each one in refined loops, letting the flocking of the trees hold its ground. After all, we’re walking through a winter wonderland, aren’t we?! Yes! Yes!
Between the two trees, I placed a reindeer candle holder that has become a classic. ( You can find this magical reindeer HERE! ) It was suggested when I bought it to include small sphere candles that burned down faster than a blink, and dripped wax over the deer and below. Not ideal. So I would just display those votives and not burn them. Until now. Here’s my solution; add a little of this removable putty to keep the votive level, then place the LED votive in each spot. To dress those antlers up even more, and to keep the find details on point, I added this evergreen ribbon around each votive. That extra detail proved just right.
The two smaller trees come in a set that also includes the garland and a pre-lit wreath, too. A great value that will be displayed and enjoyed year after year. Click HERE for 4-piece set!
If you remember, or if you’re new here, I decorated the garden house with all of these magical flocked beauties, which was even featured in American Farmhouse Style Magazine!

From Garden House to dining room, I was able to capture that dream of walking in a winter wonderland, in our dining room. I’ll keep it this way for at least another month. If you’ll be looking for me, you can find me every evening in our dining room, getting lost in the magic.
