Our dining room is long suffering, that’s for sure.
The previous owners used this room as a T.V. room. They loved their choice of wallpaper, and they loved their choice of decorative beams that they over-treated with way too dark of stain and random cuttings. With the eagle wallpaper, one would think that a patriotic feeling would be present, but I tell you what – Yankee Doodle wasn’t feeling dandy.
Everything had to go. We opened up the windows, and chucked the beams out. Tore that wallpaper down like there was no tomorrow. We painted. We refinished the floors. We installed crown moulding. And all was feeling right in the world.
The room started to feel like us. So we kept going, and I made cornices for the windows.
I wanted an old harvest table, and I found exactly what I was looking for. I happened upon a rustic furniture designer in the Amish country in Pennsylvania. The table is a custom 10 foot long table and seats at least eight; 10 in a pinch.
We added a chandelier to the room. Remember that post? Click here to refresh your memory.
This room has come full circle. As we love to entertain, our dining room gets a lot of use and will continue as time goes by.
P.S. Wanna know where those beams are being used today? Why, in our garden, of course! (To see garden post, stay tuned!!)
