When I’m walking down a street and see a bright and cheery window box, I stop in my tracks. Here are 15 beautiful window box planter designs.
I am always inspired by container gardens, and window boxes too. Whenever a variety of plants are grouped together in a planter, then I’m all in, mulling over designs for my own window boxes to plant.
Here Are 15 Beautiful Window Box Planter Design Ideas
One of my favorite places to visit in the springtime, is Charleston, South Carolina. The city is loaded with charm, southern hospitality, and the most amazing gardens and window boxes you’ll ever see. It’s almost like the neighbors try to one-up each other with their window box designs. For a gal like me, I’m in heaven because I’m photographing each and every one, grabbing inspiration and gorgeous ideas to create my own, gathering all kinds of window box planter design ideas.
There’s a good rule of thumb when planting a window box: there needs to be a thriller, a filler and a spiller. Something tall, like a miniature evergreen, for the thriller;
Some flowering plants like geraniums and grasses for the filler…
And for the spiller, let’s do some ivy or creeping Jenny. Anything that drapes down the planter would work fabulously.
Walking around the garden center, there’s an abundance of plants that would work beautifully in a window box design. Whether you’d like an all green variety, or ones with just a small splash of color, the possibilities are endless, and there’s really no wrong way to design a window box. Go with what you like and what you want.
Here Is More Inspiration
One thing I noticed when walking around Charleston is that no window box is alike. Every one was unique in its own way. And of course, I stopped to take a photo of each one. Although I do admire flowing plants, I tend to gravitate more toward an all green arrangement. I mean seriously, aren’t these next photos just downright pretty?!!
