I knew the minute that I walked into this room that it was going to be the perfect room for Mac, and that a nautical theme would fit the room, and Mac, to a tee.

The previous owners used it as an office – of stuff…..and more stuff…
Hard to find vision with so much stuff. But I did.
Then, when all the stuff was moved out, I was left with wallpaper. Natch.

I knew I wanted breadboard for the perimeter of Mac’s room, and navy on the upper walls (Benjamin Moore, Deep Royal). I had to remove wallpaper. Again, naturally.
Once the wallpaper was removed, I painted only the parts of the walls where the beadboard wasn’t going to cover. Sean installed the beadboard and the trim. Once installed, I painted the breadboard Benjamin Moore Atrium White.

I had collected vintage buoys from our vacations to Rhode Island and Maine, and had saved them until I could hang them in Mac’s room. The rest of the props, I just happened upon.

The best part about this room, is that Mac loves it, and he cherishes his time playing with his toys in there. Every morning, he wakes up, and I know I need to give him a few minutes just to gaze out the window, and think about his future day. Looking out the little eyebrow windows gives him peace. And seeing him have peace always gives me wonder what’s going through his little mind. And this moment, every morning, puts a smile on my face.

Of course, I’m thrilled with how this room turned out. But what warms my heart is that Mac loves it as well.
