Remember in this post, and this post when I said that the previous owners loved their wallpaper? Well, same goes for this room, Caroline’s room. In fact, there wasn’t just one layer of wallpaper on the walls. There were three layers!
check out the floors. Ouch!
Removing this stuff was a job for the professionals. As removing the wallpaper from the kitchen, Mac’s room, the dining room (future post) and the guest bedroom (again, future post), my hands were getting arthritic, and my head was starting to spin around like the Exorcist. No more. Please!
So Jens the painter came in and removed ALL the wallpaper in Caroline’s room and painted. I chose a light color on the walls (Benjamin Moore Acadia White), because she has very vibrant accents. I wanted to design a room that spoke for a little girl, but also a design that could be carried for a few years until I feel I have to plant these out her window.
I had seen the floral (albeit huge) ceiling light medallion on a design show, and decided to make my own for Caroline. I simply got a piece of 1/2 inch plywood, and cut it down to a 4’x4′ square. Then I drew a floral design on the wood, and cut it out with a jig saw. I painted the design with scrap paint, and sealed it with one coat of polyurethane. Installing said medallion is another story. Picture relocating the electric + hottest day of the year + working in the attic + 2 tired parents….
Caroline loves to color and paint, so I created a space for her to let her creative juices flow, and color and paint until her heart’s content.
Meet Violet, the soothing fish..
This room has certainly changed its tune from when we first bought this old farmhouse, and I’m happy to say it’s a very happy tune at that.
The best part is that Caroline loves her room. As a parent, I have achieved my goal.
