I love decorating old sleighs. The possibilities are endless and as you know, I wanted to bring the outside in for our Christmas decorating.
I’ve collected our sleighs for a few years now, never spending more than $20 for each one, and I found them all at my favorite consignment and salvage shops.
This year, I put the sleighs to good use, and incorporated them in my decorating and entertaining.
Little Tree is perched upon a sleigh, and it makes a perfect tree stand.
I brought this old baby wooden sleigh into the kitchen, and displayed it above our fridge.
And this one makes a warm display on our fireplace mantle.
But it’s this Granddaddy of sleds that is making it’s first appearance this year.
I found this awesome toboggan at the Bottle Shop Antiques this summer and scooped it up immediately. My mind was racing how I could display this at Christmas time.
It needed some attention; needed a good sanding and a few coats of protective wax. So I gave it a light sanding, and then applied 4 coats of wax, buffing in between each coat.
And the Granddaddy was placed on our dining room table last Sunday, in all of its glory, making the perfect table runner.
Keeping up with using sleighs while entertaining, they also do a fine job in the cocktail area.
So, if you have an old sleigh or see one at a salvage shop, buy it, bring it out and display it in your Christmas decor.
