I’m sharing 3 delicious recipes to make for the Kentucky Derby. All of them have the common denominator of bourbon and all are Fab-U-Lous!
Get Ready For The Kentucky Derby!
Ever since I made my bucket list, attending the Kentucky Derby has been near the top. It is an exhilarating experience to be a part of, I am sure. Naturally the horse racing is exciting, but the fashion is fascinating, and of course I’m drawn to what is on the menu.
This year will be no different than years past – I will don my Kentucky Derby hat, and will watch the big race from the front row, in my living room, with soul possession of the remote control.
And with our own little Derby party, I have prepared a trifecta menu that I want to share with you today.
One the menu: Since Kentucky bourbon plays a role only second to the horses, each item will have bourbon. Seems only natural.
First comes the cocktail the Kentucky Derby is known for, the Mint Julep. My recipe comes from a version of one of my mom’s old Southern cookbooks. The key is the steeped mint simple syrup. You can find both recipes here.
Second course is Bourbon Shrimp. A mighty fine appetizer that has zing and crunch. So. Delicious. Even the most refined woman, wearing the biggest hat ever, will love to sink her teeth in this hearty yet dainty app. Click here for the recipe.
And for dessert, I present the Bourbon Balls. The names says it all and no one can eat just one. Just a word of warning, children should not be permitted to eat these tasty darlings. Click here for the recipe.
So whether you are fortunate to attend the Kentucky Derby, attending a Derby party, or enjoying from your own television set, do include this trifecta menu in your plans.
I think my favorites would be the shrimp and the bourbon balls! Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop!
