Some friends of mine were cleaning out the garage of a second home they had just purchased. And in their garage sat this desk.
Clearly, this desk had seen better days. Jenny definitely lost its number.
Jenny’s loss was my gain! Since my friends wanted nothing to do with this desk, I gladly took it off their hands. I had big plans already. I had some burly boys wheel it on to our back porch, and I started cleaning it. I wiped it down thoroughly with TSP, then got to work taping. I wanted this desk to be two colors. I wanted this desk to be born again!
After I taped, I sprayed on primer. Then I broke out the turquoise. I wasn’t fooling around. I meant business.
5 coats later, I took off all the tape and waited for the paint to dry. Being that I didn’t follow the directions on the paint can, and I painted outside in temperatures waaaaayy colder than 50 degrees, it took a while to dry. Like a couple weeks. But that was ok. I wasn’t in a rush. Think turtles pace….
Once the turquoise was dry, I taped that off so I could paint the remainder of the desk, cream. And, since the first phase of painting took so long to dry, the temps were starting to warm up a little outside. So I was able to spread the drawers out on the drive way to get sprayed, still keeping the desk on the back porch. All said and done, the cream only took 2 days to dry.
Time to move it to its new home inside. It was down to my husband and I to get it inside. And to quote my sweet Mama, we had a monkey and a parrot time getting it inside. It’s heavy. Kind of wide. We wanted to look cool in front of our neighbors. Lord knows I didn’t want to damage my paint job. We did everything we could to not say curse words. So we spelled them out. Comical really.
But we got it in. And we love it. She’s a beauty. And we hope to never have to repaint, or move it again. Thanks, Jenny!
