When we set out to find our beloved farmhouse, one of the requirements was that we find one with 4 bedrooms. We wanted the kids to have their own room, and a guest bedroom was a must.
We welcome to our home and guest bedroom, family and dear friends that come to visit several times during the year, and feel very fortunate to be able to do so. Having said this, I wanted the guest bedroom to be comfortable, and make our guests feel like they can let down their guard and truly relax. I also wanted the room to resemble an old farmhouse guest bedroom, and give our guests a little privacy. In order to achieve these goals, I had to get to work on this room.
As with almost every room in this house, it was wallpapered. Every. Square. Inch.
I got the wallpaper taken down in about a full day. Then I lightly sanded, treated and cleaned the walls. I painted them with a bright white, and already a huge difference was made.
Time to bring in the furniture and decorate. The best part of all.
My mom gave me the quilt and coverlet that she was given from my Great Aunt. Both are over 100 years old, and I used them both for inspiration for decorating. Although I have used several different patterns, they all work well together.
The end result is a very comfortable, farmhouse guest bedroom that our guests have really enjoyed. It is also the one room in our house that stays neat and tidy, and I so appreciate that.
Hopefully this bedroom has given you inspirational ideas for your guest bedroom, or any room in your home.
It certainly is a blessing to host family and dear friends.
