Of all the special days in the year, Mother’s Day is by far my favorite. Not because it is a day about me as a mother, but rather the warmth and gratitude I feel for the privilege of being a mother.
I’m not going to lie. I do have a lengthy wish list.
A great dress from J. McLaughlin. The perfect garden cart. I even have my eye on a fierce pair of white Gucci loafers.
But none of these things can even hold a candle to the special plant that Mac brought home for me. He painted the pot red because he knew that red is my favorite color. Or the bastion of flowers that Caroline brought home from a plant sale at her school, only to use her own money to buy them all.
These things are the most precious.
Some nights I go into their rooms to check on them, and they look so angelic as they sleep, that i have to take a moment and sit on the edge of their beds to take in the sweetness, and the peacefulness of their slumber.
My cup runneth over.
So when Caroline asked me if she could set the table for Mother’s Day, I said yes without a blink of my eye. Because she knows that I know, that a beautiful table makes everything look and taste that much sweeter, no matter what the menu.
With just a tiny bit of my help, she set the prettiest table.
Maybe I am biased.
Ok, for sure I am biased.
But one thing I know for sure – Mommies are royalty. And, they deserve the prettiest, most decorated table fit for a Queen.
Another thing I know, is that above all a Mommy’s lengthy wish list, it’s the handmade gifts and time-taken designs that make Mother’s Day the precious day that it is.
Mother’s Day, in and of itself, is a gift.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there.
There is nothing more beautiful than a mother.
