A new year and a new list of projects. This is among favorite lists to make. Here’s my 7 design & DIY projects I hope to complete in 2023.
Happy New Year, loves. It’s been a few since I’ve said hello. I’ve been taking a little bit of a break to recharge. I like to do this for myself in January. Hibernate if you will, lay low for just a bit. Who’s with me? With the exception of the “must-do’s” of your everyday life, do you like to hinder on the side of taking it easy in January? I’m told this is a normal behavior and that we should welcome the calm-down.
I like this theory.
Just the same, as I sit and binge a show or two during that free time when I should be doing chores, I love to think about the coming year, and the projects I would like to complete here, on and in, the 1820. Another list to add to my pile, but one that I keep on the top. This is my favorite list.
As in every year, my list for 2023 is lengthy. I’ve got upwards of 25 hopeful projects I’d like to complete, but to bring myself down a few notches and to keep things a bit more realistic, I’ve come up with 5 design and DIY projects I hope to work on and complete this year. Some we may have to hire out, but for most, Sean and I are hoping to do ourselves. We enjoy working together and always feel accomplished with each project that we finish. It’s like adding another notch in our belt. We dig it!
5 Design & DIY Projects I Hope To Complete In 2023
I’ll list the projects in no particular order, but I’m going to start with the biggest and most intimidating…..
Paint The Exterior Of The 1820
Girlfriend needs a paint job! No if’s and’s or but’s about it. She’s flakey in a lot of spots and showing her age. Weather hasn’t been too kind to her paint and it’s time for an exterior refresh. This is a project I’m hoping to hire out, but Sean is digging his heals in to DIY this project. I’ll go along with him, but with one caveat: this gal right here doesn’t do heights. At all. So, anything above 6 feet, he’s on his own.
Refurbish All Of The Exterior Shutters
Way back, I think it’s been around 7 years ago, I found the shutters to the 1820 hidden in a dark corner of our barn. I pulled them out, gave them a good power wash, sanded, and painted each one of them by hand. It was a big job, and they looked amazing when they finally were hung back by each window where they belonged. But they too have weathered a lot of storms, and need a whole new refresh. Again. And, since we’ll be painting the exterior, it only makes sense to jazz up the shutters too, and bring them up to snuff.
Design A Total Makeover For My Office
I’m honored to have another collaboration with Lick Home this year, and my office is next on the list. This is a project that has been months in the works, and will be coming to you live sooner rather than later. I’ve picked out the most amazing wallpaper and paint to redecorate my office with, bringing it to a whole new level of sophistication, all while holding true to my design studio needs. Gorgeous meets function is my goal, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to pull it off.
A New Run For The Coop
I haven’t shared much about our chickens and ducks lately, but we still have a slew of them. Ever so grateful for the fresh eggs they give us daily, the make-shift run we built to the side of the coop, and only intended to have temporarily, their current run is in serious disrepair. We’ll need to rip everything out and start over, even giving the run a roof covering to keep them dry outside, even while it rains. Not only will the covering keep the run dry, but will also provide shade from the glaring hot summer sun.
A New Floor For The Foyer
If one were to look over and review linoleum flooring, what we have in our foyer would be voted ugliest. I’ve done my best these past 12+ years to hide the ugly under a rug, but it’s time to bring some high design, even to the small square footage of the foyer. My dream is to lay a checkerboard pattern of marble tiles; white with some grey veining, partnered with a muted, aged-looking black. I’d like to hope that this is a weekend warrior type project, but one will never know until that can of worms is opened. Regardless, I’m passionate about getting this project done.
These are just the 5 main projects that I truly want to complete in 2023. As I mentioned earlier, my list is lengthy and if I complete a few more than 5, along with keeping up with everything else, than I’ll feel golden. But in the meantime, my focus is on these, and I’m wicked excited to get going on them.
Just let me chill for anther week or so….
Wink.
