I have a little thing for pinecones. I’ve been collecting / gathering them for as long as I can remember. I always keep a bag in the back of my car, just in case I am somewhere and I find some great ones. Doesn’t matter — tiny ones, huge ones, round ones, squatty ones, oblong ones (bbq shrimp. boiled shrimp. cajun shrimp…) I collect them all.
So with that in mind, I decided my theme to decorating this year was to have lots of greenery and a big presence of pinecones.
I set out to make a pinecone wreath, using several different varieties. I even wanted a kind that I didn’t have in my stash – so I ordered from ebay — the little sweetgum round kind. Now, I have plenty of those. I laid all the pinecones out on my design table and hot glued them on a wreath form. I love how it turned out.
Although the lighting isn’t all that great on this photo, you can still see the variety
The more Christmas decorations i brought out this year, the more I saw that the pinecone was ever-present. These topiaries I have had for a long time, and I love seeing them year after year.
Take a look at this beauty. it is about 12 inches long — I nature walked my way right to Hobby Lobby and found them. (they come 3 to a package)
And this little guy – this wreath is only 4 inches across. Makes for a perfect Christmas ornament.
I accomplished exactly was I set out to do. An ode to the pinecone. I love having them all around my house. And I invite you to visit my new friend Kelly from My Soulful Home. She loves pinecones too, and published a clever post about them.
