Amazing design upgrades happened at Farmhouse 1820 this past year that I shared on the blog! Here’s my top 10 design and DIY posts of 2022!
Without fail, this time of year just as the holidays come to a close and the New Year is only a day or two away, I start reflecting on the past year of accomplishments; everything we’ve worked on here within our 202-year-old house, the big and the small. And with the reflection also comes a list of hopeful projects to complete in the coming year, and though that list will be brought to you in the coming week or two, this week I’m sharing my top 10 posts for design and DIY, followed up with my top recipe posts, tomorrow.
My Top 10 Design And DIY Posts of 2022
The majority of my most popular design and DIY posts were of rooms that underwent a complete transformation. This is no surprise and I’ve found that all of y’all love a good before and after post. I am delighted to say that a couple of my smaller DIY projects made their way in the top 10, garnering a few thousand views on their own, all of which I am so very grateful for.
Let’s Get Started!

10. How To Reupholster A Chair Like A Pro
Going with “They don’t make furniture like they used to…” I love to search flea markets, salvage shops and thrift stores for unique and beautifully made furniture. Never let an ugly and threadbare fabric on furniture detour me, but rather letting the design and construction of the piece, reel me in. The chair can always be reupholstered, and if only the seat is involved, then this is an easy DIY. Check out how to reupholster a chair like a pro, HERE!
9. Ralph Lauren Design Inspired Table
These two side tables have a few good stories to tell! I inherited them from my Great Aunt Dot, who inherited them from her mother. Aunt Dot was born in 1904. Though a few of you may shun me for painting these old gems simply for the sake of keeping the antique presence alive, in my defense, these tables came to me painted…….with A LOT OF COATS OF PAINT! Stripping said paint took me the better part of 15 hours – a project I worked on well before my beloved blog was even a twinkle in my eye. They’ve had a few facelifts since I’ve had them, and this latest Ralph Lauren design transformation is by far my favorite. And my reader’s too! Find the Ralph Lauren Design DIY how-to, HERE!
8. Easy DIY Gold Leaf Picture Frame
There’s a TICKETS sconce that hangs in our kitchen that shines over a Billie Holiday painting that I found at a salvage shop for $20. Hanging over an antique chest, my hope is for this vignette to become a coffee station. In the meantime, this piece of art needed to make a statement, and since my motto is high-end design without the high-end price tag, this project proved to be a valuable one with all of you. You can see how I created this artwork showcase HERE!
7. A Serene Primary Bedroom Design
This project was 12 years in the making. It was always a priority for Sean and me to make sure our kids’s bedrooms were on par for their wants and needs, and too, we kept allowing our bedroom remodel to take a backseat to all of the other pressing and high priority projects that popped up. This year, I became a Brand Ambassador for the most amazing paint and wallpaper company, Lick. I couldn’t be more honored and I fully stand behind this company with their top of the line paint and wallpaper. This ambassadorship was just the kick I needed to design and complete our own primary bedroom project. It’s now a serene bedroom, and a calming retreat. Find this design HERE!
6. The Best Flooring For A Mudroom
God bless our mudroom. This room not only takes a beating, but the floor alone has been through a lot as well. From tracking in the winter snow and ice, to the spring, summer and fall mud, the floor in our mudroom can’t seem to catch a break. After undergoing two big failed floor refinishing projects, I finally found and installed a flooring that is holding up exceptionally. This flooring still looks like new, and hides the dirt like a pro. Check out the mudroom floor project HERE!
5. Primary Bathroom Remodel And Reveal
Speaking of putting up with a nasty room design for far too long, our primary bathroom takes the cake! This bathroom was nasty, to say the least, and this full gut-job and remodel was long overdue. Completed not without its own challenges, now our primary bathroom is the gorgeous oasis that I longed for and designed. Honestly now one of my favorite rooms in our home, I love that my design turned out as beautifully as I had hoped. High end design on a budget, you too can get this look for one of your bathrooms! Check out the how-to, HERE!!
4. Most Amazing Dining Room Transformation
When we moved in to the 1820, this dining room was an eyesore to say the least. Wicked outdated wallpaper and the nastiest of faux beams encompassed the room. Fast forward to 2022 and this dining room now holds a deep design concept that totally makes a statement and creates a mood when we’re enjoying a home cooked meal. The graphite grey completely compliments the wood furniture pieces, making this design concept a win-win. You can see all of the before and after photos, HERE!
Going from a room with very little natural light, to one with a huge window addition, our den has certainly gone through some serious design changes. Of all of the room remodels we have completed here in our home, our latest den remodel is the greatest. Finally I have a room that truly speaks my design inspiration of traditional and classic British design. We spend a lot of family time in our den, and I’m so happy that I’ve landed on a room design that is here to stay. Another high end design on a budget, check out all of the design details, HERE!!
2. Farmhouse 1820 Complete Kitchen Makeover And Reveal
By far the hardest working room in our home, little by little, our kitchen is transforming into the amazing kitchen that I have designed. Lick paint is the major component to my latest design enhancement, following my love for high end traditional and classic British design. My kitchen design and reveal came in as a tight second, only following the #1 post for the year by 49 views. You can find all of the kitchen transformations and designs, HERE!!
And The #1 Design And DIY Post of 2022…..
1. Back Porch Makeover And Reveal
My #1 post of 2022!! A bold design to say the least, going from all white walls to black was actually an easy design choice in the end. A project completed simply by using the most amazing paint sprayer that I stand by with all of my being, our back porch went through the biggest design transformation of all time.
And my Readers agree!!
We spend a ton of time on our back porch, even turning it into an office space by day, and entertaining space by night. Weekends too. Our back porch is our haven, and this transformation has complimented our haven with true solace. Our porch is an outdoor living room, and a space that we relax in on a daily basis, weather permitting….
I so hope that you’ve enjoyed this design and DIY trip down the 2022 memory lane. Cheers for the projects coming ahead, but in the meantime, let’s relish in the ones that were successfully completely this past year.
xoxo,
B
