Although I think of March as a rather dismal month – what with winter holding a tight grip and everything leans on the color brown, March is when I get to sow the seeds for my vegetable garden and get my growing season on.
True, every southern facing window is occupied by trays of starter pots, and the sound of the spray bottle as I water all the plants is like music to my ears.
I went with what is safe for me to grow again this year. My favorites, really. A couple varieties of tomatoes, green beans, sugar snaps, bell peppers and a couple varieties of cukes. If you’re looking to start your own garden, I share the detailed how to, here.
It’s funny – every year I draw a layout for my garden. I think I want to change things up, move vegetables around and this year is no different. However, I know me and although my drawing plans have changes, I’ll most likely keep everything the same. One thing I am going to change is that I’m moving my herbs. I always buy my herbs as plants, and I plan to have a bed in my garden dedicated to herbs, rather than grow them in pots on my kitchen porch. This is one change I know I’ll stick to. Just the same, I do love to plot and plan and spending time thinking about and tending to my garden, even in the beginning stages, puts me in a happy place. A promise of new life, and bearing fruits of my labor.
All good.
My god you’re up to your backside in snow and ice and already you ar e planting seeds. I guess every the eternal optimist. Good for you, you make my day.
