Although everything inside a closet may be clean, stuffy smells can still take over. Here is a quick tip how to keep closets smelling fresh.
One of my biggest pet peeves is a stuffy, sleep smell. Sounds weird, I guess, to be a peeve, but it is. It’s hard to describe what I mean about “sleep smell,” but hopefully you catch my drift. Just smells heavy and unclean to me, and it drives me cray cray when I open the linen closet to grab a towel, and the towel has an ever-so-slightly hint of teenage boy smell. Or any closet for that matter. My reasoning is perhaps that our closets are old, and yeah, closed in. I swear all of the towels in there are clean. And, Lord knows I’m cranking out the laundry on a daily basis.
Growing up, my Mama would also give us sachets and pretty wrapped soaps just to have in our drawers to keep everything smelling good. So I started thinking; what if I brought the April freshness to the closets? Maybe take that pretty wrapped soap and raise it a dryer sheet. Storage wise, it would work out well because I could store the dryer sheets in between towels, and even hang a sheet on pant hangers in closets.
So, I set out to freshen up the closets and give it a whirl before I reported back to you. I could be on to a great Quick Tip!
I started in the linen closet, natch, and placed a couple dryer sheets in between towels, and waited a couple days. I opened the closet and it smelled fresh, no weird stuffy smell. So then I thought, let’s give it another week, see how long this will last. Still good.
Next smelly closet I tackled was Mac’s. A neat freak beyond words, his closet is always orderly. However, his shoes are totally against the clean smell cause. Definitely needed a dryer sheet (or two) in there. On a side note, to curb the stinky shoe smell, I followed this Quick Tip,Β sprinkled baking soda in his shoes to help eliminate that smell.
I clipped a dryer sheet on a pant hanger like this, three times, and spaced them out in Mac’s closet. Worked like a charm.
So I kept going. Even though our coat closet is lined with cedar, I put a couple dryer sheets in there too, and also in our closet and Caroline’s.
I love this tip because it’s the easiest tip ever. Who knew that a dryer sheet could be a major problem solver. I recommend changing out the dryer sheets once a month to keep your closets smelling linen fresh.
You’re welcome.
