Spring is the season where show houses pop up all over. Designers gather together under one roof, and are each assigned a completely bare room to turn into an epic design haven. I love visiting these show houses, and even though my time is limited and I can’t visit them all, I was able to head down to NYC recently to check out the Kips Bay Show House.
Walking through the house, I couldn’t help but think about how I could, or if I could, apply some of the design inspiration into our 1820. These designers, in my opinion, have impeccable taste. How could I implement some of these designs to our home?
So, I set out to do just that, and ask the designers on hand, as many questions and tips and how-to’s, as I possible could.
Every room offered a myriad of inspiration
There was an over the top kitchen that was really beautiful. Though this kitchen felt too pretty to make a mess in, I grabbed inspiration in the hood over the stove. I desperately need one of these and am scouring books, magazines, Pinterest, and this show house for a vision to design and build my own. I love how this much-needed appliance is made to look so elegant. And, the backsplash is pretty fierce as well. This one is my favorite images.
And I am happy to say that the majority of the rooms were designed very classically. Don’t get me wrong when I say classicly. They were classic, but vvveeeeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyy posh!! Total eye candy.
One thing that struck me as funny, is that when I inquired to the designer how a get the look, how achieve the finish, how a design was brought about, they were surprised. And most, told me that they hadn’t been asked the specifics of the how to’s, but rather the how much?
My response: Such is the life of a DIY blogger.
Come on!! This bedroom!!! Who wouldn’t want to catch some z’s in that bed, and wake up feeling like royalty?!!!
And this room?! They playfulness of the graffiti and the classic upholstery! The designer upholstered wooden panels and secured them to the wall, He hired a graffiti artist to design and spray images to the panels, and in the end, the design posted a classic and very professional look. The panels make it possible for the homeowner to change out each season. The lucite tables add great surface area, and the fact that they’re clear keeps them from absorbing too much space in the room. However, I could probably do without the head on top of the books..
And for all of you chalk paint fans, check out this room! The entire room was painted in black chalk paint, and the moldings and designs were drawn on with chalk, natch. Gorgeous. I love this room, and would like to incorporate this look around here.
On my way home, my eyes gazed out the window onto the Hudson river, my mind sorting through every room I walked through, and pulling even more inspiration from mother nature. This show house didn’t disappoint. Hopefully, you too will find great inspiration in the photos I have shared today.
I love to go to show houses too. I don’t get too many opportunities, though. This place is lovely, and good sized for NYC. My son lived in a studio in Kips Bay for a few years. It was a very nice area. I love the kitchen with the stained wood around the stove and the crisp white next to it. The bedroom is lovely, should be very quiet tucked into that bed with all of the fabric. Thanks for the peek!
Interesting! I liked the kitchen but your old man is still not too modern. But an interesting show and I know you enjoyed it. I really think you do very well with your own creativity. That said it certainly does not hurt to check out what other peeps are doing, so it was all interesting and there was stuff in every room that caught my eye. So carry on with your bad self.
Love, Daddy
