It’s time to wash away the winter grime on the porches. Like every spring, I have a mess on my hands in regard to the back porch. And, every year I think the situation will change and that I won’t have empty random wholesale club boxes to break down and recycle, along with a mound of sawdust of some sort to sweep away. Natch, this year was no different. Whatevs, divide and conquer. It’s time to porch!
Freshen things up is the name of the game and I started with a good power wash. Walls, floor, everything. With this, I decided to go ahead and roll a new coat of paint on the floor. And, since the old rug that lived under the glass table had seen its better days, I gave it the toss and decided to paint a rug instead. And why not? Painting a rug is the perfect custom spin and much friendlier on the budget. I kept my painted on rug pretty simple, using blue Scotch painters tape to help with my design and I pretty much did everything by eye rather than measuring. Worked out just fine.
As for the chairs, I simply sprayed on a single coat of flat black paint to freshen them up, and I tell you what, a can of spray paint is worth its weight in gold. I took the curtains down and gave them a good soak in bleach with a follow up hot water wash and hung them back up to dry.
We do spend a lot of time on our back porch and all the effort I go through to get it ready is worth it in the end. But as I say every spring, hopefully next year this porch won’t be so messy. I can always hope, right?
OMG I’m dying over your porch! Right now I’m obsessed with Fixer Upper and they seem to be big on porches and outdoor space. I’ve been an apt dweller forever so I’m really jealous of people with houses and outdoor space. I’ll check out the rest of your blog!
Thank you, Tonya!!
I never would have thought of painting on a rug, but that looks so fresh and clean, I love it! Great idea.
Such a money saver, too!
I LOVE your porch! Beautiful, big outdoor space and it looks so clean and fresh. You must love hanging out there !
Gail, thank you so much!!
This looks like a wonderful place to spend a summer afternoon. Thanks for inspiring me to tap my laptop outside to write.

I love your huge porch! I am saving it for my future porch ideas!
