I started collecting state souvenir linen tea towels from the states where I have lived, with the idea of framing them and hanging them somewhere. And of course, I want to do everything myself.
In order to hang fabric properly, so it looks great behind glass, it needs to be dry-mounted first.
As you can guess, I also have lots of other signs, posters, etc that I would like to have dry-mounted, so the benefit of me learning how to do this myself is big.
Turns out, it’s an easy process, and the magic item needed is dry-mount tissue. I found the size I wanted on Amazon.
The supplies you will need: artwork, foam core board, dry-mount tissue, ruler, utility knife, an iron, and parchment paper.
Score the foam core board to desired size using utility knife. The board should equal the minimum dimensions of the artwork to be mounted.
Cut the piece of dry-mount tissue slightly smaller than the artwork to be mounted.
Position the mounting tissue between the artwork and the foam board. Center the artwork on the board and secure on two side with masking or painter’s tape.
Turn the iron on to the cotton setting.
Lay parchment paper over the artwork, covering it entirely.
Iron evenly until all mounting paper has melted. Press smooth with gloved hands.
Very simple and very rewarding. I’m so happy with how these two towels turned out. Now I just need to find towels for the other 3 states where I have lived. Giddy up!
Happy Mounting.
