My first project for 2023, I’m excited to share with you my Farmhouse 1820 office makeover design plan, full of beautiful inspiration!
Raise your hand if you are like me, and have a few projects that you started months ago and have yet to complete.
This is the story of my life.
Thing is, I get so excited about each and every project, that I get ahead of myself and think – if I just do a little bit to get a taste of what’s to come…..
And then, there’s a few things out of sorts, out of place. Complacent sets in and then those things that are out of place; like the small crock of rulers that usually lives on my design table, is now hanging out in the Butler’s pantry next to the tonic water; we get used to the out of place. True definition of turning a blind eye.
Sigh.
So much as changed since that original design above. Colors and textures alike. Still, a whole new makeover is in order.
Truth: I started my Farmhouse 1820 office makeover last summer. I was hell-bent on keeping my mind off of my sweet boy heading off to college. I needed an escape for my mind to go to, something to think about and plan all while I was buying and inventorying everything he needed to head off for his first year away from home. Hence, the first floor of the 1820 was a mish mosh of dorm room meets office STUFF. Everywhere.
Time has passed. Sweet boy is doing amazing. Christmas has come and gone.
How To Create A Better Office Design
This project is in collaboration with Lick Home. An outstanding brand with the most amazing paint colors and wallpaper patterns, I’m honored to be named one of their Brand Ambassadors.
So, months back, Little Miss helped me unload my office. We took out everything in anticipation for an updated furniture placement, and to make room for a new floor plan, to paint, and eventually wallpaper. Here’s where I am with design and my much anticipated plans for my office; a room where I spend the vast majority of my time working, creating, designing, and writing.
First, my desk needed to move out of the back corner and placed in the front window. What’s the saying? Nobody puts Baby in the corner? Well, this proved to be the case with me. The corner was much too cold and too far away from the radiators. During the doldrums of winter, I was freezing while in that corner. It was uncomfortable to write and there was no such thing as to let my writing chops flow, during the middle of winter, especially.
Next, the design table was situated such that only one side of the table was workable. I’m a firm believer in real estate value, even inside the home. Every single piece of furniture should work as hard, and as wisely as possible. Since my 4’x6′ foot design table fit perfectly in that nook where it was located originally, only one side of the table was workable.
It’s Time To Complete The Farmhouse 1820 Design Plan!
Here’s my Farmhouse 1820 makeover design plan.
For my new office design, I’m going for sophistication coupled with elegant yet fun details. A soft romantic pink paint on two walls, with an out-of-the-ordinary-office-design wallpaper, to really make this space sing, on the other two walls. One could never go wrong with a gorgeous rainforest printed wallpaper!
Years ago, when I first designed and moved into my office, I painted an antique table to use as my desk. And although I cringe at the thought (and every single time I sit at the desk) now of painting such a piece, nothing is permanent, and I fully intend on stripping all of that white paint off of the desk and letting the wood grains show their beauty. Natural wood with a clear semigloss protective coating over top.
Yes.
Yes.
Those two lamps that are flanking the tabletop, will get a fun DIY facelift as well. Truly an unexpected design with high end details. Because yes, this is the name of the game. I’m thinking of bringing in a lime green of sorts. Stay tuned.
Who Is Hanging The Wallpaper?
Well, I got a few bids, and was horrified at the cost. I’m starting to really get frustrated for paying out the nose for things. I called my Aunt Karen, who has been a professional wallpaper hanger for decades, to get her advice and to see if I could maybe hang the paper myself. And, although she’s my biggest cheerleader, I sensed she had her doubts. Even though she believes in my DIY chops, still, I needed to find a pro. So, I found someone. A guy that is just as passionate about this office wallpaper project as I am. He comes to me highly recommended and isn’t charging me an arm and a leg, thank goodness.
New electric will be wired, new light fixtures will be hung and the new floor plan will be the most wise decision. My new Farmhouse 1820 office makeover design will be unrecognizable. To say it’ll look like a whole new room will be an understatement.
I’m half done with this room makeover. Two walls are painted that romantic pink, and the other two are primed and ready to receive the wallpaper. I’ve turned a random doorway into a display nook/bookcase that you’ll totally get the gist of when I show you a few posts from now, and best of all, this room is working its best for my needs and my design work.
Sometimes it takes many years to truly come up with the best design plan for a room. Case in point, my office, and this is a makeover design that is going to blow you away! Trust me on this. I’m so excited about my office makeover, and I can’t WAIT to share it with you!
Stay tuned for the reveal coming soon!
