Even on vacation, I’m an early riser. Sleeping in for me is around 6:30, and honestly I don’t have a problem with that. I enjoy the quiet and the calm mornings bring to me, and when we are here in Newport, my early mornings are spent on the search for sea glass, and welcoming harmony with my surroundings.
As I mentioned, our rental house is on the water. Just down the steps is a pebble-y beach and the minute I hit that last step, my eyes are focused, looking for that treasured sea glass. I’ve been collecting it for years. I have jars and jars of it. It’s beautiful to me, and the search is cathartic.
I’m a dreamer too, and some mornings I get lost in this view, and lost in my thoughts. The sound of the waves, and the smells of the ocean wrap around me like a blanket and even when I don’t find a lot of sea glass, I am happy. Some of my most creative thoughts have come from my morning moments on the beach. I have a piece of mind these mornings, and I am so grateful.
I’m not alone every morning. Some mornings Hudson joins me. Sometimes the Little Miss is awake and comes down with me. But just the same, I am granted a few minutes where I can let my mind wander, and hunt for that treasured sea glass.
Here are a few pieces that I have found so far. I’ve even found a couple pieces of china. The aqua pieces are my very favorite.
Until tomorrow…..
Hi Brooke. I had a few minutes this morning and decided to take a look at your blog. I loved seeing these pictures of your trip to Newport. It looks like everyone had a good time trying the surf board with paddle. I wish the ocean wasn’t so far from us, as I do see how reinvigorating it can be. Love to all! Aunt Maryellen
Thank you so much, Aunt Maryellen!
